VIDEO -- Debt Ceiling Drama: Rep. Joe Walsh, Tea Party-Obstinate ... Talking Points and Falsehoods

No sooner had I blasted out my piece on the obstinacy of Tea Party Republicans in Congress than Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) showed up on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” last night to prove it. The interview is in the clip below. Matthews is his characteristic aggressive self. But watch Walsh give as good as he gets while spewing Tea Party talking points and falsehoods.

While Walsh clearly is immune to facts, I hope you’re not. Thanks to the Debt Limit Analysis from the folks at the Bipartisan Policy Center, we know what they are.

Walsh asks Obama in his video harangue: “Have you no shame, sir?” Considering the first-term Tea Partyer willingly ignores the facts, the question is more appropriately addressed to him. But we already know the answer, don’t we?

I saw this live yesterday and was appalled. There is a dynamic with some of these Tea Partiers that just oozes arrogance. I couldn't believe when he said "your President" ... and then tried to step back. But especially calling Obama a liar and the constant interruptions, aggression and falsehoods ... they have brought a certain disrespect to the process. I thought when I was watching it that he was putting on a "performance" designed to appeal to the right wing blogs ... sure enough they're all praising him today. They may dislike Matthews or even agree with Walsh's POV ... but I don't know how they can support his demeanor.

I'm glad that Capehart corrected Walsh with his facts from the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Sue, there are a lot of bosses in the Chicago suburban area who talk and act like that to their employees every day. I saw the exchange, too. It was his worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) display so far. Yes, Joe Walsh was arrogant - and he sounded like several guys I've worked for over the years. Imagine trying to work and listening to that condescending, sarcastic, bombastic diatribe day in and day out.

If he appears on any other shows, I'll channel surf for a few minutes until this blowhard is done. He's got nothing to say that I ever want to hear again.

Virtually every tea partier I've ever talked to has been just as obstinate and just as dumb.

Facts are not something that right wingers will let get in the way of their beliefs.

I can't imagine it and feel for anyone who would have to put up with that BS. I know from experience that treating people with respect and fairness produces the best results for any company. I once had a boss tell me how to vote when I was new to his firm ... I left on the spot and had my resignation on his desk first thing the next morning. He apologized profusely and I ended up working for him for years ... I think my own rather strong personality and insistance helped to change his attitude toward staff which was good.

He's got nothing to say that I ever want to hear again.

How true ... not only is he short on facts, who wants to listen a "legend in his own mind" ...

That communication pattern is well-ensconced in the Chicago-metro area as the means by which the highest level of contempt and disdain are conveyed to the listener, where the one dishing it out feels he is on the 'higher' level. It's horrible to be on the receiving end. Walsh was doing the 'Allen West' thing, but Walsh's version uses enough finesse that he doesn't appear as a misogynistic, on-the-edge-of-violence, pompous a$$.

Thing is, now that I don't have kids to support, if someone talks to me like that, I dish it right back or just walk away. In fact, the last boss who did that to me was stunned when I walked away from him in the middle of his rant. His mouth literally fell open. Either way, that would be the last exchange from a given person that I'd put up with.

The exchange was not a rational or reasonable discussion of political ideas. It was a brawl. It's indicative of what's really going on with our politics and I, for one, am sickened by these puerile, contemptuous displays. No one who acts like that even once will ever get my vote.

I'm glad that you have the freedom to do it. It's terrible you would have to put up with it even when raising your kids ... there is no excuse for that behavior and so wrong that people have to put up with it to earn a living.

Joe the Deadbeat needs to find a hole to go crawl into...first, he needs to pay his $100K in back child support and then find a cave to live in.

ALL of the TPs are rude and have no manners or respect! G_D only knows where they came from! Parents who apparently didn't teach them how respectful, responsible people act in Public, let alone in front of MILLIONS of tv viewers. Disrespect is Rampant in that party, as is Ignorance! :-(

I've often wondered the same about their family dynamics ... I don't understand where this kind of selfish "all about money" and "demand, demand, demand" attitude comes from. We are teaching our sons to be tolerant, respectful, humble, kind ... everything that so many of these people seem not to be.

Another trait that I've noticed is apologizing or admitting mistakes seems like the end of the world! Palin is a good example of that ... she's never, ever wrong, it's always someone else's fault.

Yes, SueHughes, I have three sons and a daughter, all are respectful, responsible and lovely adults. Two have children, and even their children already show those same values. I'm embarrassed for and by people who act like those folks.

Sounds like you've done a wonderful job with your family! I'm very proud of my boys to date and hope that I can say the same as you many years down the line when we hopefully will have grandchildren : )

First Allen West, no this joker Walsh, I have seen enough of this kind for one day. God bless this country as we once knew it!

The really sad thing is, they want to screw the very people who voted for them!

Sue

It's the "true believer" syndrome. They think that they have seen the light and that it is the only light. If we are looking at a different bulb, we have to be wrong automatically. We don't need facts. We need to be bullied. Like every bully though, they don't like it when they are stood up to. Everyone saw that yesterday with Allan West and Joe Walsh.

It's so sad when you get down to it ... the arrogance, the agression, the lack of compromise. They are going to be defeated but it will be by the numbers and courage rather than stooping to their level. They can continue to "yell the loudest" ... and watch their poll numbers fall with moderates and independents.

Bullies is what they are. I really dislike bullies. I enjoy seeing them get what they deserve, always have. It motivates me to action.

Bullies love when you don't call their bluff. President Obama, this countries President should understand this is the 20% of the population that called him every racist nasty name they could think of...remember the birthers. Until he stood up to them did they slump back into the hole from which they crawled. They never will compromise. Beat back the bullies with the 5th & 14th Amendment in one hand and the support of the small 80% "AMERICAN PEOPLE" in the other. The very fabric of this nation is woven in defeating treachery. The Tea Party is filled with aritificial sweetners! Call them the "Traitors" that they are. Remember the "War on Terror" well here are your home grown Corporte Backed Terrorsist! Send in Seal Team 6...

Well seeing how I guess we will have to tell the tea party when the next election will be held, I guess it will be up to every American to get their new stupid ID and go vote. These people should be found guilty of treason and I know that there is a spot within walking distance of the capitol where once upon a time Nathan Hale was hung as a traitor by the British. These are political and financial terrorist.

Anyone who needs a ride to the DMV, I will try to get you there. We need to get to work and start getting citizens registered and motivated. I think it will easy after the latest hit job on the country by the right wing.
